• Reduced Soil Compaction: Testing the imprint area of a tire on a field is difficult, due to varying conditions. To test soil compaction, MICHELIN® uses a sand track that identifies significant differences between tires. Differences that appear on the sand track reflect the same way in the field. From tests like this, MICHELIN® was able to show its XeoBib tire had a 24% larger footprint in area compared to a classic technology tire. For rutes and depth effect, the testing team built a ditch and filled it with layers of soil of alternate colors. After rolling the tractor over the ditch, the team discovered that a MICHELIN® tire with Ultraflex technology reduces soil near to 20% compared to tested competitor tires. Finally, a field test found that soil quality remains good for root development with MICHELIN® CerexBib vs the tested competitor tires.
• Fuel Saving Performance: MICHELIN® Ultraflex technology tires show fuel economy savings up to 25% against other tractor tires in the test. To measure fuel savings, MICHELIN® installs tires on a tractor using maximum output. The tractor drives over a plot of uniform soil with a tooth plow. The test is repeated with different tires before testers measure the spin and fuel consumption.
• Long Service Life: An accelerated wear test is performed 24 hours a day without the use of a driver. Results are based on actual rolling conditions and an analysis of the AG tread. Comparisons can be made between tires of different compositions, types, and ranges from the analysis. Results are consolidated by means of farm usage.
